Sensory Room

Sensory stimulation and relaxation is an important part of our care, as this helps the development of motor skills, learning, language, and social interaction. Our sensory play involves activities that are designed to stimulate the senses of sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, vestibular (sense of balance), and proprioceptive (sense of where each body part is in relation to the rest of the body).

Music Room

Musical expression is encouraged in our dedicated room and provides a unique and entertaining dimension to sensory play. In conjunction with the TACPAC™ method, which draws together touch and music in a structured half hour of sensory communication between a client and a carer, this creates sensory alignment and helps with sensory impairment, developmental delay, complex learning difficulties, tactile defensiveness, and limited or pre-verbal levels of communication.

Focussed Activity Room (formerly Classroom)

Puzzles, Games, Learning, Key-Working, Monitoring improvement in sensory processing, gross and fine motor skills, memory and cognition, through play.

Art Room

Artistic creativity presents an alternative to verbal communication and its unique therapeutic quality is fostered as this can address Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), improve sensory, social and emotional functioning. Art therapy is an excellent treatment for autism because it is inherently reinforcing. Clients experience enjoyment, stress relief, and increased self-confidence from tackling art projects and by simply exploring the potential of the various artistic materials.

Kitchen

Our Kitchen is a lively and friendly hub which includes a weekly social cooking day with all involved. This promotes teamwork and social skills whilst learning self-sufficiency skills such as cooking from scratch, healthy eating, shopping, and preparing food grown in our garden!

Living Areas

Our living rooms offer time for relaxation and reflection, and also physical improvement and wellness activities such as cardiovascular exercise and Yoga.

Garden

Outdoor activities offer a fun and refreshing aspect to care, and our garden is put to full use with guided gardening sessions including growing fruit and vegetables to eat. Depending on the season, we provide outdoor exercise, paddling pools, forest skills activities, games and fun, and relaxing in the sun with a healthy fruit smoothie.

Life Skills Rooms

Practical every-day skills are learned and performed in the private bedroom, kitchen, and living rooms of Little Ashmount. Featuring activities which focus on life skills, preparing for supported living, or just helping out at home (washing, cleaning, making beds, preparing meals, and shopping).
